Championship 2009
From the current Champion:
Greetings unto Their Excellencies and the Populace of Terra Pomaria. My time as the Arts & Sciences Champion is drawing to a close. I have chosen not to compete for the Championship this year.
The A&S and Rapier championships will be held at Winter's End on February 14, 2009. More information on the event will be forthcoming from the autocrat.
To qualify for Champion, you must enter at least three categories. You do not need to be an expert in all areas of all entries, but have an expertise in one and a working knowledge in the others. This is a time for you to spread your wings and try something new. If you wish to enter the competition to gain feedback from the judges, but not compete for the overall championship, you are encouraged to do so.
You may compete in all categories if you choose, but must identify only three entries to be judged for the championship. All judges' scores are tallied and compiled with the highest scoring competitor becoming our champion.
You will be asked to present your entries to the judges and answer questions related to your entry. The intent is not to put you on the spot, but instead to gather a better view of what you are submitting so that the judges can better understand where you are coming from and to give you a chance to explain any adaptations, interpretations, and changes you may have made. The presentation is in addition to any other documentation you wish to present. Scoring will use the Kingdom
A&S judging format.
The categories for this year's competition are basically the same as last year with the replacement of Culinary Arts for Brewing, and so are:
*Fiber Arts – Show your skill in any area regarding the useful nature of fibers. From beginning (shearing, spinning, etc) to end (clothing, embroidery, tapestries, etc).
*Performing Arts – Show your ability to entertain using poetry, song or story.
*Scribal Arts – Show your ability to design, calligraph and/ or illuminate documents or journals.
*Culinary Arts - Show your ability to make period foods such as bread, pies, pickles, subtleties, etc. This entry may be your potluck contribution if you choose.
*Decorative Object – Show your ability to make objects to adorn your person such as metal pins, beads for necklaces, buttons, belts (both woven and leather); decorate your environment such as stained glass, enameling, etc.
*Useful Object – Show your ability to create a useful object from wood, metal, leather, etc. such as a box, a lamp, shoes, a pitcher, a stool.
Letters of intent to enter the competition will be accepted up through opening court at Winter's End.
Please don't hesitate to send me an email at
with a brief description of your intended entries. This will make finding qualified judges much easier. The uggestions are only examples, I'm sure many more ideas will come to mind.
